WHY DO BLACK PEOPLE LOVE THE BEACH BUT HATE THE WATER???
This is my thought for the day. We as Black Americans, Negroes, Coloreds, African Americans, Other, whatever you may describe yourself as........love to go the the beach and/or very tropical locations. But, we very seldom get in the water. Let's talk Black Bike Week, which happens every Memorial Day weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC. You have hundreds, thousands of people who go down there, not for the beach. But to ride on bikes. More specifically, a lot of them go there to fuck (I've been there twice, I know. Hell, once was enough to see that). And me being the avid water lover that I am, I LOVE TO GET IN THE WATER. Always have. As a kid, growing up in NY beaches were like 30 mins away, in any direction. Moving to Maryland let's me know I'm having "Lack of Beach" anxiety. So my question is, why don't MY PEOPLE want to get wet. More specifically, the sistahs. Ladies, I understand the hair. Ain't trying to go natural. At the same time, I'm not going to let the texture of my hair stop me from getting into the water. That's what relaxers, cornrows, individuals (braids), even a sewn in weave are for. It is because we don't want to get ashy??? Is it that subconcious thought that we were brought over here unwillingly in boats, and as a people haven't recovered???
I remember in HS cutting school and going to Rockaway Beach, let me rephrase that, spending extracurricular time in aquatics, and it would be a whole bunch of us. All the Black girls would be sitting on the towels talking about, "I ain't getting my hair wet" meanwhile all the Spanish girls were in the water and the girls on the towels were like, "What the hell he messing with her like that for......"
And guess who was the ONLY Black girl in the water.....that's right SHUGAREE!!!!
See my sistahs, water is very, hmmmmm how should I say, erotic. There are some things that can happen in the water that goes undetected by the naked eye. If you're sitting on the beach you're chilling and really have know reason to make physical contact with a member of the opposite sex you may be attracted to. But when you're in the water, it's NO HOLDS BARRED BABY!!! You can feel on things, rub up against things, act like you can't swim (I really can't by the way, tee hee hee!!!) among OTHER things.
Relationships form in the water. Have you ever noticed you've gone to a beach or some tropical place, and the people that got in the water ended starting something????
Take my advice ladies, the WATER does a body GOOD!!!
So, till this day, I like it wet, I mean I like to get wet, I mean, shit, y'all know what I mean.......
Holla at cha girl ----- Shugaree!
